Day 2: The Power That Does What We Cannot
Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:17; Ephesians 2:8-9
Devotional: Religion offers a self-improvement program. The gospel offers a resurrection. There is a profound difference between trying to become better and being made entirely new. Many people have attempted to outrun their past, relocate their problems, or pile up enough good deeds to outweigh the bad. It never works. Sin stains what human effort cannot scrub clean. But the gospel carries what the New Testament calls dynamis — explosive, transforming power. God does not wait for you to clean yourself up. He meets you at the worst version of yourself and does what you never could: He makes you new.
Reflection: Have you been treating your faith as a self-improvement program rather than a surrender to transforming grace?
Application: Write down one area of your life where you have been striving in your own strength. Surrender it specifically in prayer today, trusting God's power over your own effort.
