Day 4: Character Built in the Pasture

Reading: 1 Samuel 16:1-13; Psalm 78:70-72

Devotional: David was anointed king, then sent back to watch sheep. Moses spent forty years in wilderness obscurity before leading Israel. God develops character in the pasture before elevating us to the palace. These hidden seasons—where nobody applauds, where faithfulness feels invisible—are where God shapes us for what He's prepared. The bears and lions David fought when no one was watching prepared him for Goliath. Your current "pasture" isn't wasted time; it's divine preparation. God won't give you what your character can't hold. Don't despise the development season. Embrace the quiet work God is doing in you when nobody sees. Your faithfulness in obscurity is building strength for your future.

Reflection Question: What character quality might God be developing in your current season of obscurity or difficulty?
